| History The St Boniface Church was started on
November 27,1960, to serve the spiritual needs of Anglicans in the
newly-developed Harbour View Housing Scheme, Established initially as a
Mission of The St. Michael’s
Cure’ its services and Sunday School classes were conducted in the homes
of two members until 1966, when the Harbour View Primary School became
the new venue for worship.
On Ash Wednesday, February 24, 1970,
the Diocesan Bishop, the Rt..
Rev’d. J. Cyril Swaby, dedicated the new St. Boniface Church b uilding,
constructed on approximately a 2 1/2 acres of land between the Gypsum
Company and the new Donald Quarrie Comprehensive High School, on The St
Thomas Main Road.
St. Boniface was weaned from the St. Michaels Cure in 1978 and, along
with The St. Martins Mission in Bull Bay, formed a new Cure under the
leadership
of the Rev’d, Leslie Hoo Sang. St. Peter’s Church, Port Royal
was added to the Cure on January 1,1984.

Extending the Mission
The St. Boniface Church, Harbour View, is extending its
mission into the 21st Century as an agent of spiritual, physical and human
development. Its main objectives are:
• To fulfill The Lord’s
mandate to make disciples of all men
• To bring Christ to the
neighboring communities through active involvement in a holistic programme
of development and assistance.
• To promote social improvement and change, against the background of
economic decline and eroding social values
In order to effectively
implement the proposed development programme, the St. Boniface community is
upgrading flue Church building, which it has used for the past 30 years. The
project, which will cost an estimated J$36.5 million, will be undertaken in
two phases and will involve:
• Construction of a new
Church to seal 650 persons, with an internal Baptismal Pool, Administrative
Block, Conference Room and Columbarium
• Refurbishing of the
present building to create a multi purpose complex
Life Enrichment
The Church will expand its
Life Enrichment Programmes for residents of Harbour View, Caribbean Terrace,
Bayshore Park, Melbrook Heights, Shooter’s Hill, Port Royal, Rockfort,
Copacobona, Camrose, Bayview and Bull Bay.
Initiatives will include:
• A Homework/Information
Centre
To encourage the discipline o studying and assist students preparing
for examination,.
• An Adult Literacy
Programme
To improve literacy in the target communities.

• A Small Appliance.
Repairs Programme.
To provide skills training and income earning opportunities for young
persons
• A Health Care.
Programme
To encourage healthy lifestyles, especially among the elderly and young
adults
• A Family Life
Programme to promote stable family relationships
• A Keep Fit/Aerobics
Programme
to encourage exercise as a vital part of healthy living
• A Music and Cultural
Development Programme
to enrich worship and provide a constructive outlet for talented youth.
Service Ministry
The outreach programme at
St. Boniface Church has improved life for many persons in the community,
especially youth.
• Basic School:
Housed on the church
complex since 1992,. the St. Boniface Basic School provides a sound
educational foundation for 3- 5 year old children. It is officially
recognized by the Ministry of Education and Culture, and has approximately
100 students on roll.
• Educational Assistance
The Muriel McGraham Scholarship
Fund and the Education and Health Trust Fund have helped more than 100 young
persons to achieve their educational goals.

• Health Care
Hundreds of citizens have
benefited from the Health Care Unit’s monthly clinic in Bull Bay. Its health
fairs in the wider community provide access to range of medical services, at
minimal cost.
• Community Service
A weekly feeding programme
for the indigent and the
development of parenting skills are among the community support
initiatives implemented by the Mothers’ Union and the Brotherhood of St
Andrew.
• Special Projects:
The Support Network for
Grieving Persons and the Mentorship Programme are part of a new thrust by
the Church to respond to the needs of the community
• Youth Development
The Anglican Youth
Fellowship, the Youth Choir, the Severs’ Guild and the Sunday School are
helping young people in the Church to develop leadership and organizational
skills, nurture their musical talents and learn the true value of service to
others.
.Music
The Youth Choir is renowned
for its excellent choral renditions, and maintains the Church’s rich musical
tradition.

• Spiritual Development:
The Christian Fellowship
Units, the Bible Study and Prayer Circle, as well as other Church
organizations, enrich spiritual life in the community, and provide emotional
support for many persons
